Who We Are and What We Do

RCCM was chartered in 1989 by a group of young, likeminded people with the broad objectives of serving the communities that they live and work in, networking and promoting their business interests and for fellowship and fun. Being a part of Rotary International, the club is committed to the ideals of Rotary and the larger purpose of making our world a better place for all its inhabitants.

Today, the club has grown to a membership of over 50 Rotarians with a healthy mix of men and women, young and not so young; professionals and entrepreneurs from a wide range of vocations and industries, all making up an enthusiastic set of committed people. The club is big enough to have the scale to undertake ambitious, sustainable projects and to have a strong leadership pipeline. However, it is small enough for all members to know each other well and bond together.

RCCM members are people of good standing, firmly committed to upholding high ethical standards in their personal and professional lives. Being an organization that focuses on promoting ethics and values, the individual members of RCCM see a perfect match between their personal values and those of Rotary.

How We Function

A President and a Board of Management is appointed by the membership for a period of 12 months running from 1st July to 30th June of the following year in keeping with the guidelines of Rotary International. The President typically serves for one 12 month period and invites selected members to serve on his/her board as secretary, treasurer and a number of directors heading the various avenues of service. Being a voluntary service organization, all positions are honorary and there are no paid employees. Even though the President changes every 12 months, there is smooth continuity of the club affairs from one Rotary year to the next.

The club meets once a week. Meetings are held routinely on Wednesdays from 12.30 pm to 2 pm at the Hilton Colombo Residence and includes lunch. In addition to the regular luncheon meetings, the Board meets once a month to deliberate and take decisions about club projects, administration matters, finances, fellowship events etc. Committees and sub committees are formed to organize and implement specific fundraising events and service projects.
